Henrik Teske learned to play chess at an early age at home. The training partner was his brother, who was one and a half years older, and at the age of 6, he joined a chess club for the first time.

In 1985 Henrik Teske won the GDR championship in blitz chess. Teske won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 2nd place at the tournament in Guildford (1991), 3rd place at the tournament in Karlsruhe (1991), 3rd place at the tournament in Gifhorn (1992), 2nd place at the Berlin summer 1993 behind Karen Movsesjan, 1st place at the Open in Wattens (1998), 1st place at the tournament in Frohnleiten (1998), 2nd place at the Capablanca Memorial Premier tournament in Havana (1998), 1st place at the Open in Bad Wörishofen (2006 ) [1]and 1st place at the North-West Cup in Bad Zwischenahn. He reached his best rating in July 2007 with 2578 after a very strong Bundesliga season.
Teske has held the title of International Master since 1988 and received the Grand Master title in 1996.
